And on a larger scale, Harvey Nichols, Peter Jones and Harrods stand resplendent in their corners of Knightsbridge the behemoths of our age of consumer choice and personal expression.

The gourmet creations of more celebrity talent can be enjoyed on the ground floor and basement of the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel. Here are the first London restaurants of the renowned chefs, Heston Blumenthal and Daniel Boulud. Unfortunately these restaurants are not available during the lockdown. And you will see that Knightsbridge is all about bright lights and a type of glamour that merely hints at unfettered largesse. It is cosmopolitan with a true sense of itself and its unique place in the firmament of this illustrious capital city.

What’s On In London’s Knightsbridge

The Serpentine Galleries – just a short stroll across Hyde Park – offer a range of events and art exhibitions throughout the year set in Hyde Park. It is a lovely place to meander close to nature in all seasons of the year. Unfortunately the galleries are not open during the lockdown but the park remains a great place to stroll.

Enjoy a concert at Cadogan Hall

This is one of London’s leading musical venues – highly recommended – set in a fantastic location in the heart of Chelsea! Offering a huge variety of concerts and events throughout the year: beautiful choral music, huge international orchestras, folk and world gigs, jazz big bands. Enjoy a drink at the bars, whilst admiring the building’s unique architecture and stained glass windows. Cadogan Hall is just a 2-minute stroll from Sloane Square tube station and a 10-minute walk from Victoria.

The Hall accommodates a fairly intimate audience of just 950. It’s excellent acoustic and luxurious surroundings makes it a prime choice for some of the UK’s top orchestras, including the resident orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic. And it is also a favourite London destination for international touring orchestras. The BBC chose Cadogan Hall for their popular Chamber Music Series and also offers contemporary, jazz, folk and world music events as well as talks, debates and conferences.

Sloane Square

In the heart of Chelsea, where Sloane Street intersects with the Kings Road, and surrounded by cultural institution, the Royal Court Theatre, international designers and flagship department store, Peter Jones, Sloane Square is a must see for visitors to London. It is particularly charming and nicely illuminated at night. It is a great place for people watching. Stylish visitors to the capital promenade along the road in all their finery. And on a weekend, there are local residents aplenty with their beautifully groomed pedigree pet pooches.

Visitors can enjoy fantastic quality stores and boutiques and dine in popular restaurants for example Colbert and The Botanist, although these are currently closed. The Square is home to the prestigious five star Sloane Square Hotel, overlooking the hustle and bustle of Chelsea, and Cadogan Hall.

Sloane Square was originally part of a sweeping vision that mapped out modern Chelsea in 1777.  And it includes a central island with its Venus Fountain, a monument to lovers. Sloane Square remains the central part of Chelsea.
